MAC Tournament - Day 2 Women

Women’s first-round MAC tournament play resumed Monday afternoon, with East #4 seed Buffalo taking on the West # 5 seed Toledo. Buffalo, the higher of the two seeds, lost to Toledo based on anemic first-half shooting. Toledo moves on after the 53-50 win.

Buffalo shot themselves in the foot, digging a hole they could never quite crawl out of. In a less than stellar first half of play, they shot a pathetic 6-31 from two-point land, and 0-4 from three, tallying only 17 first-half points. Toledo was a little better and scored 27.

Toledo remained consistent through the second half, notching another 26.

While the Buffalo offense did end up picking it up a notch, they still could not hit a 3-pointer. Their 33 points left them three shy of a tie 53-50.

Toledo moves on and will play west #1 seed Ball State on Thursday evening at 5:30 PM.

In the late afternoon, East #5 seed Kent State advanced, knocking off West #4 seed Northern Illinois by a final of 75-67.

Kent State was up by as many as 21, but allowed a huge Northern Illinois run early on in the second half. Northern Illinois even managed to take the lead at one point, before Kent State pulled into the lead for good. The foul line proved the difference maker.

Kent State plays East #1 seed Bowling Green on Tuesday in the feature 8 PM match up.
