Doctors Expecting Full Recovery

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Oct. 6, 2008 – The Sacramento Monarchs today announced forward Rebekkah Brunson underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage in her right knee. Monarchs Team Doctor, Kirk Lewis, performed the surgery. It is projected she will be out six months, and a complete recovery is expected.

Brunson did not compete with the Monarchs during the 2008 WNBA Playoffs after team doctors confirmed the right knee cartilage damage at the conclusion of the regular season.

In 2008, Brunson was named to the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team and appeared in 20 games, averaging 10.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.67 blocks and 26 minutes per game.

Selected by the Monarchs in the first round (10th overall) of the 2004 WNBA Draft, Brunson was a 2007 WNBA All-Star and was a member of the 2005 WNBA Championship team. In her five seasons with the Monarchs, Brunson has played in 165 games averaging 8.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.5 blocks and 21.4 minutes per game.
