MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Lynx announced today that third-year guard Seimone Augustus and rookie guard Candice Wiggins will both miss the final two games of the 2008 season.

Augustus was diagnosed with a mild concussion Tuesday night after falling to the floor with 5:07 left in the first quarter of Minnesota's game against the Indiana Fever at Target Center. The results from a CT scan performed that night were negative.

Wiggins injured her right knee in the closing seconds of the second quarter of the game against the Fever. A magnetic resonance imaging test Wednesday confirmed a tear to the lateral meniscus in her right knee. Surgery has been recommended to repair the injury.

"I am sure that both Seimone and Candice would fight to play in our last two games if we were still in the hunt for a playoff spot," Lynx head coach Don Zierden said. "However, we feel that it is in their best interest to sit out our last two games. While we are incredibly disappointed for Seimone and Candice, as well as the fans who are coming to our last home game tomorrow night to watch them, we don't want either of them to do anything that could jeopardize their tremendously promising futures in the WNBA with the Lynx."

Augustus, an Olympic gold-medal winner while a member of the 2008 U.S. Women's Olympic team and a two-time WNBA All-Star, was the top overall draft selection in the 2006 WNBA Draft. The former LSU standout has been Minnesota's leading scorer in each of her three seasons in the WNBA.

The injury ended Augustus' streak of scoring in double figures at 88 consecutive games, which was just four games shy of the WNBA record held by Cynthia Cooper. Augustus is Minnesota's leading scorer with 19.1 points per game, which is third in the WNBA. She is also seventh in the league in minutes played (33.6 mpg) and free-throw percentage (89.0 percent).

Wiggins was the third overall pick of the 2008 WNBA Draft and is a leading candidate for the WNBA's Sixth Woman of the Year Award and the Rookie of the Year Award. She is currently second on the Lynx and second among all rookies in scoring with 15.7 points per game and in minutes played with 27.5 mpg. She leads the Lynx and is third among rookies with 3.0 assists per game. She is second on the Lynx and third among rookies with 1.8 steals per game. She is also fifth on the Lynx and 12th among rookies in rebounding with 3.2 rebounds per game.

The 2008 Wade Trophy winner while at Stanford is second among qualified rookies in 3-point field-goal percentage at 30.6 percent (31-for-121). She is also third among qualified rookies in field-goal percentage at 40.3 percent (137-for-340) and free-throw shooting percentage at 81.7 percent (161-for-197).
