WNBA Announces 2008 Eastern Conference Semifinal Schedule

NEW YORK, Sept. 12, 2008 – With six of the eight playoff teams locked into specific seeds, including the four participants from the Eastern Conference, the WNBA announced today the schedule for the Eastern Conference Semifinal games, with the 2008 WNBA Playoffs beginning Thursday, Sept. 18.

For the second consecutive year, the Detroit Shock secured the top playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and will face the No. 4-seed Indiana Fever. The Indiana-Detroit series will get underway Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. ET in Indiana. The series will move to Detroit for Game 2 on Sunday, Sept. 21, with a deciding Game 3, if necessary, in Detroit on Tuesday, Sept. 23. The series opener can be seen on NBA TV, while the final two games will air on ESPN2.

In the second Eastern Conference Semifinal series the No. 2-seed Connecticut Sun will face the New York Liberty, who finished third. That series will commence at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 18, in New York. The series will shift to Connecticut for Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3. The second game will be Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. ET with Game 3 on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. ET. The first two games of the series will air on NBA TV while ESPN2 will telecast Game 3.

In the Western Conference, the San Antonio Silver Stars clinched the top spot, as well as home court advantage throughout the Playoffs and Finals, and the Seattle Storm secured the No. 2 seed. The final two playoff seeds are still up for grabs between the Los Angeles Sparks (currently in third place) and the Sacramento Monarchs.
