Minnesota Lynx to Host Inaugural Lynx Beach Volleyball Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Lynx today announced that they will be hosting the first-ever Lynx Beach Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, August 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. The celebration is part of the “33 Days of Augustus,” a comprehensive community outreach plan featuring nearly 40 events and a host of media appearances throughout the 33-day Olympic break, and will feature four-individual coed teams with each team guaranteed four games.

Lynx first round (3rd overall) draft pick and former Stanford Cardinal volleyball player Candice Wiggins will be among the players participating. Wiggins was a part of the 2004 Stanford team that defeated Minnesota to win the 2004 NCAA Women's Volleyball championship.

"I'm extremely excited to host the inaugural Lynx Beach Volleyball Tournament," said Wiggins. "Volleyball is a passion of mine and I'm thrilled to be sharing my enthusiasm with members of the Minneapolis community. Hopefully we can build meaningful and lasting relationships while we continue to serve our community throughout the '33 Days of Augustus'."

Entry into the tournament will include an exclusive Lynx Beach Volleyball Tournament T-shirt and two tickets to an upcoming Lynx home game. The tournament champions will receive four courtside seats and a signed Lynx volleyball.
