Players to Lead Widespread Community Outreach Initiative Featuring Nearly 40 Events During the 33-Day Olympic Break

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Lynx today announced the launch of the team’s “33 Days of Augustus,” a comprehensive community outreach plan featuring nearly 40 events and a host of media appearances throughout the 33-day Olympic break.

The “33 Days of Augustus” will commemorate Seimone Augustus’ representation of the Minnesota Lynx at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. While Augustus is helping Team USA earn their fourth straight gold medal, the rest of her teammates and coaches will be impacting the lives of the youth of Minnesota by exposing them to the very charitable and selfless qualities that represent the Minnesota Lynx organization.

“The Olympic hiatus offers the Lynx a unique opportunity to have our players, coaches, and staff interact with the Minnesota community during our extensive 33 Days of Augustus outreach and initiatives,” said Angela Taylor, Vice President of Business Operations. “While Seimone Augustus and her Olympic teammates are competing on the global stage in Beijing and vying to bring home the gold medal, we will partner with various local organizations to celebrate the platform we have to make a difference in the lives of many. As an organization, our commitment is to affect change in the Twin Cities community and it makes me proud to know that our players truly embrace each opportunity to make a connection.”

Beginning on July 28 and concluding on August 29, the Lynx will bolster their presence in the community with events designed to bring the fun and excitement of Lynx Basketball as well as expand the team’s community outreach to several nonprofit and charitable organizations throughout the Twin Cities metro area during the “33 Days of Augustus.”

The “33 Days of Augustus” consists of events for Lynx fans, corporate partners, season ticket holders and community partners. The festivities tip-off on August 4 with Lynx players participating in the 22nd annual Create a Memory event, an annual fun-filled sports activity day for underprivileged youth in the Twin Cities.

Events over the course of the 33 days include community initiatives (two Ronald McDonald House appearances, a Read to Achieve Reading Time Out and a People Serving People appearance), business initiatives (National Night Out) and fan appreciation events (Open Practice, Olympic viewing party and breakfast with Candice Wiggins).
