One and Done

In terms of the Lake Erie Monsters, February 27, 2008 can be described as a “One and Done” day. First, they returned home from a tough five game road stretch that only netted them one win. Secondly, they were only home for one game before hitting the road again for a “three games in three days” stint. Finally, they lost 1-0 to the Houston Aeros.

In a defensive struggle, the Monsters and Aeros could have written off the first period.

In the second, Lake Erie killed off six minutes of penalties in a row only to give up the games’ only goal with 1:45 left in the period. The goal was a two-on-one breakaway that Lake Erie’s netminder Jason Bacashihua initially stopped, but the rebound proved to be his undoing. Houston’s Adrian Foster took the first shot, while Joel Ward poked home the rebound.

Entering the third in the last home game on February 14th versus the Hershey Bears, the Monsters were faced with a similar final frame dilemma. Down one goal, with less than two minutes to play, the offense came up huge, pulling off the tying goal and sending the game into overtime. Unfortunately, tonight did not hold the same magic. While the Monsters did manage a last minute attack, they couldn’t put the puck past Aeros Goalie Barry Brust. His stellar performance earned him first star of the game honors.

The Monsters return to Quicken Loans Arena March 7th.

First Star : Barry Brust

Second Star : Joel Ward

Third Star : Jason Bacashihua
