03-17-08: There’s More Than One Winner at The Arnold Palmer Invitational ORLANDO, Fla. - What an exciting time at this year's Arnold Palmer Invitational, because it not only was an amazing putt that Tiger (Woods) made on the 18th hole to win the tournament -- it was an educational experience for all that stopped by the Triple Threat Challenge booth. The weather for the most part was a typical Florida March forecast, and if my memory serves me right it was cooler on most days last year at the tournament. My hats off also to the staff and volunteers that made this tournament a success. From the start of tournament play we saw the leaderboard change hands on a daily basis. After Thursday's finish we had Fred Couples and J.J. Henry in the lead, but the next day we saw new leaders emerge, like Vijay Singh. As with most golf tournaments the weather elements played a part in the daily play. We saw plenty of the Florida sunshine (which I have to say I love every minute of -- and I have a sunburn to prove it), the typical afternoon rain showers, and it was also cool at times. The wind played a big part in most of the golfers' games, and players had to compensate when teeing off. Tiger and some of the other golfers were sinking birdies, but others had the unfortunate bogey from time to time. We saw Tiger birdie and par many of his holes and come back from seven shots back in the third round to take the win at Bay Hill. Another golfer who had an outstanding showing on and off the course was Tom Lehman. Lehman is a spokesperson for the Triple Threat Challenge, an educational program that offers information about heart disease and cardiovascular risk factors. The Triple Threat represents the three components of your total lipid profile, including LDL-C (bad cholesterol), HDL-C (good cholesterol) and Triglycerides (sugars). It’s a cause that affects millions of the World's population, and that’s why PGA Tour golfer Tom Lehman, working with Merck & Co., Inc., is supporting the Triple Threat Challenge. I personally have been affected by the lipid profile, as have many members of my family and friends. So not only did we have an educational experience on the course at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but off the course as well. |
